How We Verify Contractors

PREMIER contractors goes through a 5-point verification process. VERIFIED contractors have confirmed active CSLB licenses. ALL contractors are checked against CSLB public records nightly. We monitor closely for surprise violations and license expirations.

Listing position is based entirely on verification status. Premier contractors receive enhanced verification services and listing management as part of their membership.

The 5 Verification Standards

  1. CSLB License Verified
    We confirm every contractor holds an active, valid license with the California Contractors State License Board. License status is checked automatically every night at 3 AM. If a license lapses, we are notified immediately.
  2. Insurance Verified
    We verify that the contractor carries current workers’ compensation insurance and general liability coverage. This protects you if something goes wrong during a project.
  3. Senior Safety Experience
    We confirm the contractor has documented experience in aging-in-place modifications, accessibility remodeling, or senior home safety work. General contractors without this specialization are not listed.
  4. Deposit Cap Compliance
    California law (Business and Professions Code 7159) limits contractor deposits to $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less. We verify that listed contractors follow this rule.
  5. AB 2471 Compliance
    Assembly Bill 2471 gives California seniors (65+) enhanced contract cancellation rights. We verify that listed contractors acknowledge and follow this consumer protection law.

Bonus: CAPS Certification

Some contractors in our directory hold the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation from the National Association of Home Builders. This indicates advanced training in home modifications for aging adults. CAPS certification is noted in our directory when applicable, but it is not required for listing.

Contractors are organized into tiers based on how many of the 5 standards they meet. Tier placement is determined entirely by verification status, not by payment.

Premier

Meets all 5 verification standards. Highest level of confirmed consumer protection compliance.

Verified

Meets core verification standards including active CSLB license and insurance. Working toward full compliance.

Ongoing Monitoring

Verification is not a one-time check. CSLB license status is Powered by LiveVerify™-our automated CSLB monitoring system checks every license nightly at 3:00 AM. If a contractor’s license becomes inactive, suspended, or revoked, we are alerted and the listing is flagged for review immediately.
